In 2009 Dr Faizal joined University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur as the head and resident Consultant of the Plastic, Reconstructive and Burn unit. Over the next four years he was responsible in managing the hospital's fully equiped burn unit, managing the plastic surgical patients which mainly consist of patients with cleft lip and palate, complications of burn injury, breast reconstruction as well as complex head and neck and lower limb reconstructive patients. He was also appointed as a senior lecturer at the Medical Faculty of University Kebangsaan Malaysia (National University of Malaysia) where his academic responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as research and publications.

Throughout his training and working career he had developed his cosmetic surgical skills. He is trained in the various surgical and non-surgical aesthetic procedures. He also trained under Dr. Jalil Jidon who was the Plastic Surgeon at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital for 15 years before moving his practise to the Beverly Wiltshire Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur.

​In April 2013, Dr Faizal Ali joined KPJ Johor Specialist Hospital in Johor Bahru as their resident Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon. He also has sessional clinics in three other KPJ hospitals in Johor; KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital, KPJ Pasir Gudang Specialist Hospital and KPJ Kluang Utama Specialist Hospital.


Dr. Faizal subsequently spent almost a year in  London learning from various plastic surgeons working at the prestigious Great Ormond Streat Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. He came back to Malaysia and spent another year at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Bahru, Johor.

Dr. Faizal graduated from University of Bristol Medical School in the United Kingdom in 1996. He underwent his general surgical training at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, Malaysia where he was posted to the  various surgical subspecialty department. It was during this time that he developed his interest in plastic and reconstructive surgery. He passed his surgical exit exams in 2002 in Dublin, Ireland and was conferred a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

​He started his plastic surgical training in the same year by joining the Masters Programme in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He was one of the pioneer trainee in this programme. He subsequently spent three years training at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. He finished his training in 2005 and spent the next eight months as a clinical specialist at the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. This department is the tertiary referral centre for plastic and reconstructive surgery for the whole of Peninsula Malaysia. The Department has extensive experience managing cleft and craniofacial abnormalities, acute burns and various forms of reconstructive head and neck, breast and oncoplastic cases.
